This field demands effective communication both oral and written at all levels. Careers in this field includes marketing specialists, accounts executives, sales managers, media planners and media sales representatives.
Education
Persons are hired at all levels in schools to teach communication. Careers along this path include, language arts teacher, speech teacher, debate coach and drama director.
Electronic Media / Radio – Television / Broadcasting
The first jobs that come to mind when one speaks about communication are those in media houses. Careers in this field will incorporate both performance and technical skills. The radio-television field actually has more behind-the-scenes jobs available than on air and these positions pay just as well or even better. Choices include producer, film editor, news director, news writer, disc jockey and talk show host.
Journalism
This is another popular path to consider when thinking about a career in communications. Journalism involves carrying out researches, gathering information and transferring it to the public verbally or nonverbally. Careers in journalism include reporter, editor, newscaster, publisher and script writer.
Theatre / Performing Arts / Dramatic Arts
Similar to mass media, theatre is considered to be a glamour industry and many people enter this field as the road to becoming a star. Some get there while dome don’t. There are many off-stage jobs in this area. Career choices include performing artist, director, producer, makeup artist and theatre manager.
Other areas in which persons who specialize in communication can find employment are government, business, health, international relations, and law and human services.
Competition will continue to increase for announcing jobs like newscasters. Entry level jobs are usually paid low salaries but it is good to cherish if you want to break into the field.
High school students wanting to embark on a career in the communications field need to cover a wide range of lesson in foreign languages, computers, public speaking and English. They should also sustain their interests in music and sports.
Media houses hire more beginners at low salary and they sometimes give persons with experience the edge over those who don’t. Therefore, it is important that you utilize any internship opportunity, paid or unpaid.
